| Question: | Hi my 4 1/2 old lab pup just bit my 2 1/2 year old daughter,not bad but there was a scratch, and she provoked him,i just need to know what to do so this wont happen again because it could have been alot worse. |
| Answer: | Hello Tracy, To prevent this happening again, you must closely supervise your daughter when she's around the pup. If you are too busy, then crate your dog. Your puppy does not have the self-control yet to control it's biting when provoked. You also need to obedience train your pup. Give him daily lessons in the basic, core commands. Your dog must learn to focus on your commands and obey consistently. This will be vital to your dog co-existing with a toddler. It is not realistic to expect your dog to ignore provocation while only a puppy. The best short-term solution is to not let them interact except under your watchful eye. Take Care, Sandy Finley |
