Exercise and Dog Health
Just like humans, it’s important that pets maintain healthy lifestyles. It will help them live longer and remain healthy throughout their lives. A healthy pet is also a happy pet. Keeping a pet in good health is not difficult, and starting the habits early is the best thing you can do for your animal.
If you’re not sure how to keep your pet in good health, think about the things you do (or should be doing) for yourself. Regular exercise, good nutrition, good hygiene and annual trips to the doctor are all things that you can do for yourself and for your pet. If you start these things the moment you bring your dog home, then the good habits will be harder to break.
Exercise is good for you and your dog. Daily walks or runs are extremely important. Your pooch needs a chance to get rid of excess energy, stretch his legs, and build his muscles. Lucky for you, exercising regularly with your pet means you are also reaping the benefits. Try taking your pet for a walk or jog at least once a day. If you have an overly hyper pet, then exercise later in the evening. You’ll be surprised how much calmer a tired pet can be.
Good nutrition is another habit you need to develop with your pooch. Instead of asking a salesperson at a pet store what food is best for your pet, do your own research and talk with your veterinarian. Your veterinarian can give portion, feeding frequency, and food type recommendations. Dogs require meat-based diets with some grain and vegetables. Don’t feed your pet from the table, since this is the fastest way to develop poor eating habits!
It’s up to you to make sure your dog has good hygiene. Whether you groom him at home or take him to a professional, there are a few things that should happen regularly. First, dogs require baths. Don’t over-bathe your pooch (this can lead to dry, irritated skin), but make sure he is clean. Second, regular brushing is important for a shiny, healthy coat. Third, long toenails can cause all sorts of problems, so make sure you keep them clipped. Fourth, dogs’ ears attract dirt, bacteria and wax buildup, so clean them regularly. Last, don’t forget about your pet’s teeth! Good dental habits are essential in the overall wellbeing of your dog.
Take care of your pet’s health. If he requires medication, make sure you follow your vet’s directions. Even if your pooch seems to be in perfect health, you need to schedule annual visits with your veterinarian. Regular appointments can help you ensure your pet is in good health.
Keeping your pet healthy is important for you and for him. You want him to live long and remain a companion as long as possible. It’s easy to develop good health habits with your pooch. It may take a little time, but both of you can benefit from the routine.
